Gerry McNamara will have plenty to do as the new head men's basketball coach at Syracuse University.
His first move, though, is one that many Orange fans will be calling for: Get Gavin Doty to transfer to SU.
Doty was McNamara's best player at Siena. It would stand to reason that he'd follow his coach down the road to Syracuse.
It would be an even more logical fit for Doty when you consider he's from Fulton, which is about 25 miles north of SU.
It'd be an awesome and well-earned homecoming for Doty, who ended up at Siena because schools like Syracuse didn't recruit him out of high school.

It's a different story now, though. Doty just averaged 18.0 points, 6.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game this season for the Saints. He shot 45% from the floor and 32% from 3-point range.
He's a 6-foot-5 guard who has played just two college seasons so far, so he could develop alongside McNamara in the ACC.
It's not a guarantee that Doty would reach a similar level of play with Syracuse, but he's certainly worth the chance.
He'd also give McNamara a guy on board who knows exactly how he does things. That could have immense value, including in vouching to other possible transfers about what McNamara is like.
Doty has announced any intentions yet, but stay tuned. It would certainly be a very logical outcome for the local kid, and for the Orange.
