The Phoenix Suns are in the middle of a crucial offseason. They have many key decisions to make regarding the future of their franchise. This includes deciding whether to trade Kevin Durant and what coach they want to hire before the start of next season. Despite tons of Suns trade rumors creating roster uncertainty, the Suns do have one move that can create some stability for an organization that desperately needs it. Locking up a Devin Booker contract extension is one move the Suns can make that all fans will agree on.
NBA insider, Marc Stein of the Stein Line, recently reported that the Suns plan to do exactly that.
Stein reported that the Suns are expected to offer Booker a 2-year, $150 million extension. This would make Booker one of the highest-paid players in the league.
This Devin Booker contract extension would be a sign to Booker and the rest of the Suns organization that the team is going to continue to build around their home-grown star.
The question is, is this the right move for the Suns?
It seems like locking up your franchise superstar is a no-brainer. That being said, with Phoenix Suns trade rumors indicating they are expected to trade Kevin Durant. As well as the team having almost no assets to make further win-now moves, some believe that the Suns should move on from Booker as well.
This season, Booker had his lowest scoring average since the 2017-18 season, and shot his lowest percentage on threes since 2018-19.

Booker has still yet to show that he is capable of leading a team to an NBA championship, and trading him, while his value is sky-high, could re-position the Suns for a brighter future.
It would be a bold decision that would likely anger their entire fan base. That doesn't mean it wouldn't be the right one.
This potential Devin Booker contract extension doesn’t mean that the Suns can’t eventually trade him. Still, if Booker’s play continues as is, he may not be worth the $75 million a year the Suns will likely offer him. This could make him harder to trade down the line.
