Alyvia McCorkle is one of the top scoring guards in Iowa high school basketball for the Class of 2026. She recently concluded her junior season for Bettendorf, but has decided to make her college commitment now.
McCorkle, who competes for the Mac Irvin Lady Fire on the club basketball scene, committed to the University of Houston.
Last year at Bettendorf, McCorkle posted almost 21 points per game with five rebounds, three assists and nearly five steals a night. She broke her own single-game scoring record, as the Bulldogs reached the Class 5A regional semifinals and won 16 games overall.
"This is home," McCorkle posted on social media alongside a picture in a Houston uniform.
Much like she has done at Bettendorf, McCorkle will be looking to help build the Cougars into a contender in the Big 12 Conference. The Bulldogs went 11-11 her first two seasons before posting their most wins since the 2017-18 campaign.
Houston, meanwhile, was just 5-25 this past year and won just once in the league under head coach Matthew Mitchell. But building a winner is also nothing new to Mitchell, as he took Kentucky to three Elite Eights, five Sweet 16s and nine NCAA tournament appearances overall before leaving for the Cougars.
