Stuart Skinner's NHL career has been an up-and-down journey.

The Oilers goaltender has been through the highest of highs, but also the lowest of lows, while looking to establish himself as a bona fide number one in the league.

That roller coaster ride has been in full force during the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Skinner was shelled to begin Round 1 against the LA Kings and pulled for Calvin Pickard. Pickard took over the net for the remainder of the first round and into Round 2. However, an injury forced Stuart Skinner back into the crease, an opportunity which he's taken full advantage of.

While the hockey world certainly knows the ups and downs Skinner has been through, his wife, Chloe, shared some scary details about messages they've received online throughout the year. The Breaking Ice podcast posted the clip on Instagram.

“We have a very passionate fan base, and the people here live and breathe for the Oilers... It’s a tale as old as time, where the goalie is the punching bag a bit. This year definitely got intense. There was times where security had to be involved. I specifically have DMs filled with death threats towards the kids, towards myself from anonymous accounts with people hiding behind their screens," Skinner said. “It can get really ugly, people threatening if they ever see us, they’re going to take us out. It gets intense, and I’m making it lighthearted right now, but when I do read those, I get really scared, and I do obviously worry for the safety of my family and my young boys. It’s terrifying to think that there might be people out there who are going to hurt us over the result of a game. It is a little deranged.” Skinner added.

Certainly not something you want to hear for Stuart Skinner and his family. He has one year remaining on his three-year, $7,800,000 contract extension with the Oilers, and you have to wonder how this will all factor into their future decisions.

Stuart Skinner has turned it around in a big way

Ever since he reclaimed the starting goaltender role because of a Calvin Pickard injury, Stuart Skinner has been tremendous.

The 26-year-old has gone 7-3-0 upon returning in Round 2, with a 2.03 goals-against average, a .921 save percentage, and three shutouts. Sparkling numbers at the most important time of the year.

He'll look to ride that strong play all the way to the finish line. Next up is Game 3 against the Panthers on Monday night in Florida. The puck drops at 8 p.m. EST at Amerant Bank Arena.
