Real Madrid fans online have ripped into Vinicius Jr. for his performance during their Champions League clash with Liverpool. The Brazilian winger had a night to forget as he was kept under wraps by Reds defender Conor Bradley on the night, with Los Blancos falling to a 1-0 defeat at Anfield.
The LaLiga leaders started the game slowly as Liverpool controlled the game early on. They could have found themselves behind by a huge scoreline before the break, thanks to Thibaut Courtois, who made five saves in the first half alone.
Courtois continued his brilliance after the break but was eventually beaten barely after the hour mark after Alexi Mac Allister headed home from a free kick. Real Madrid rallied in response, but their failure to register a shot on target in the second half meant they suffered their first defeat in the season’s Champions League campaign.
While a couple of Real Madrid players had a subpar outing, Vini’s performance was far more shambolic by his standards. Despite playing the full 90 minutes, the 25-year-old lost all his tackles to Bradley, losing possession 19 times and eight duels to the Englishman.
Vinicius also failed to register a shot, let alone a shot on target. To crown it all, he was the lowest-rated player among both teams with a match rating of 6.0, according to Sofascore.
After the match, fans took to X (formerly Twitter) to slam Vini for his display, with one writing:
“Vini having a stinker of epic proportions.”Vini having a stinker of epic proportions
Another tweeted:
“vini is so useless wth man.”vini is so useless wth man
Vini jr is actually so useless
Vini jr is an absolute clown. Is their magnets in his kit connected to the floor?
Another summed up his performance, writing:
“Vini having the stinker of all stinkers.”Vini having the stinker of all stinkers
Real Madrid have now lost more European Cup/Champions League games to nil to Liverpool (5) than any other side.
Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde identifies reason for 1-0 loss to Liverpool
Federico Valverde blamed his side’s loss on 'a set-piece' and emphasized the need to defend set-pieces better.
He told reporters after the game:
“This is a complicated stadium. We had chances, and in the end, we lost because of a set-piece…We need to defend set-pieces better. They sent in 3, 4 crosses in a row. We should’ve been stronger.”Following the result, Real Madrid sits fifth, while their English counterparts are right behind them in sixth in the league phase of the competition.
