For the first time in his NFL career, defensive tackle Quinnen Williams is not a member of the New York Jets. He was traded to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of Tuesday's NFL trade deadline. After getting traded, Williams opened up on his feelings about both his old and new teams.
He started by talking about the Jets.
"New York will always have a special place in my heart," Williams said on X. "To my teammates, coaches, and the entire Jets organization, thank you for believing in me and helping me develop on and off the field. To the fans, thank you for embracing a kid from Alabama and showing love through every high and low. You welcomed me with open arms, and gave me a place to grow. Your energy and passion made every game unforgettable."
Before finishing the post, Williams added, "I’m excited for what’s next in Dallas and can’t wait to get to work."
The Jets selected Williams with the third overall pick in 2019. He was a First-Team All-Pro in 2022 and made three straight Pro Bowls (2022-2024). In his Jets career, Williams tallied 40 sacks with eight forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and one interception. But whatever individual success Williams and his teammates had did not translate to team success. The Jets had not made the playoffs since the 2010 season, which is the longest active drought in any of the four major North American sports leagues. New York has not enjoyed even a winning season since 2015.
Williams being emotional about leaving New York is understandable, as was his reported desire to be traded.
