With 2025 coming to a close, it is time to look back at the year gone by. In this edition of Sportskeeda's Choice, we will pick WWE's biggest mistake of 2025.
Some could argue that it was Jey Uso winning the Royal Rumble and making Gunther tap out to win the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 41. Others could argue that it was WWE's mishandling of LA Knight for another year. The terrible booking of Drew McIntyre can also be among the top three worst decisions the company has made this year.
However, there is one mistake that surpasses all the others by a considerable margin. To no one's surprise, it is the Travis Scott-Rock debacle that led to John Cena's heel turn at Elimination Chamber 2025.
Why is The Rock and Travis Scott's involvement in John Cena's heel turn WWE's biggest mistake of 2025?
At the time, it seemed like the start of another incredible, star-studded WrestleMania season. After John Cena's heel turn, it seemed like he was going to be The Rock's 'corporate champion' through WrestleMania 41. Travis Scott's involvement was a surprise, but it could have had an impact if The Final Boss were involved.
However, what followed was complete silence from The Rock for the remainder of the year. No appearances, no explanation, and no follow-up to him essentially commanding Cena to turn heel and betray Cody Rhodes. Fans expected the legend to appear at WrestleMania 41 at least to help Cena during the main event. But, Travis Scott appeared instead and helped John Cena win his 17th world title.
Although the Never Seen 17 managed to cut several good promos as a heel, it never quite clicked. Something always felt off with him as a heel without The Rock's presence, and it derailed the first half of his retirement tour. While things worked out when Cena returned to being a babyface again, it only happened after one of the most underwhelming WWE angles of the year.
