The NFL has announced a sanction for Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase after an incident with Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey. The incident in the Bengals’ 34-12 loss to the Steelers on Sunday involved a scuffle between the two players, with Ramsey punching Chase.

Ramsey was ejected from the game after this, while the Steelers were hit with a 15-yard penalty as well. However, Chase remained in the game. However, the league, upon examining a tape of the scuffle, has decided to suspend and fine Chase for spitting on the Steelers' cornerback. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the league’s decision in an X post where he wrote:

“NFL suspended Bengals WR Ja’Marr Chase for spitting at Steelers DB Jalen Ramsey. Chase denied spitting at Ramsey, but the league determined the video evidence was sufficient to warrant a suspension.”

“That’s one expensive spit.”

“Video is clear, but if Chase denies it, this just adds controversy. Will this heat up the Bengals-Steelers rivalry or fizzle out quickly?”

“Wild how the NFL suddenly trusts ‘video evidence’ when it’s Ja’Marr Chase, but for half the league’s dirty hits they claim the footage is ‘inconclusive.’ Selective discipline at its finest.”

Michael Stewart added:

“Maybe he did, but maybe he didn’t, or maybe a secret third thing, like diamonds ejected from his grille.”

Ja’Marr Chase denies spitting at Jalen Ramsey

Following Sunday’s game, reporters were eager to question Ja’Marr Chase over the incident with Jalen Ramsey. Chase denied spitting at the Ramsey. He told the reporters in his post-game interview:

“I ain’t never opened my mouth to that guy. He didn’t like some of the swears I told him, so I’m sure something got under his skin.”

The wide receiver kept reiterating as he left the interview:

“I didn’t spit on nobody.”

Bengals head coach Zac Taylor has described Chase’s action as “crossing the line,” while defending him for being a professional and handling himself well. The receiver will miss the Bengals’ next game against the Patriots on Sunday.

He can also appeal the suspension before the game, for an opportunity to overturn the suspension.
