Arranged in four movements and sung in 13 languages, its orchestral pop storms down from the skies and leaves, in its thundering aftermath, a field guide for pop’s seekers, those who believe the answers to love, desire, and creative purpose might yet be contained in three or four minutes at a time."

In an interview with Billboard ahead of the release of LUX this month, Rosalia shared details about working on the album and what it means to her. Speaking about how she approached this album "differently", the Spanish singer said:

"This album has a completely different sound than any of the projects that I’ve done before. It was a challenge for me to do a more orchestral project and learn how to use an orchestra, understand all the instruments, all the possibilities, and learn and study from amazing composers in history and say, “OK, that’s what’s been done. What can I do that feels personal and honest for me?”"

Further, Rosalia also opened up about taking inspiration from classical music and experimenting by doing something she has not done before.

"And also the challenge of having that inspiration in classical music and trying to do something that I haven’t done before, trying to write songs from another place. Because the instrumentation is different from all the other projects I have done. But also the writing, the structures, it’s very different."

The singer also elaborated on how LUX comes from a place of "love and curiosity". In this album, she explored her curiosity to "understand other languages, learn other music, learn from others." It is worth noting that LUX includes lyrics in 14 different languages including Rosalia's mother tongues - Catalan and Spanish, alongside English, Arabic, French, Portuguese, Italian, German, and others. Speaking about using so many different languages, she said:

"There were so many things that I had to play with and take under consideration. Because it’s not just writing. It’s not just on paper. It has to sound good. There’s a big difference for me when I write, for example, a letter for somebody that I love than if I write a song. It has to have a certain sound, a certain intention of musicality."

Most of the album's making focused on how to sing in various different languages, as confirmed by Rosalia herself. The singer mentioned in her interview that it took her "a year" to write the lyrics and another year to arrange the music before retouching her words. The track listing in the album is split across four movements, which the singer said was "intentional."

Moreover, Rosalia explained that each song in the album tells the story of a saint and she read a lot of "hagiographies" while making the album. Finally, she also hinted at how a stage performance for LUX could look like, adding that "a lot of creativity" is required to translate it into stage.

Meanwhile, the singer is also working on the HBO series Euphoria, as she's filming for its upcoming third season. Details about her role are yet to be revealed.

Rosalia's LUX is available on all streaming platforms.
