Former Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders is currently fighting for a roster spot on the Cleveland Browns, but the quarterback room is already crowded. Once projected as at least a Day 2 draft pick, Sanders slid significantly and was eventually selected on Day 3. While his drop was surprising, reports began to surface about his pre-draft process.
Sanders was believed to have had poor interviews—or deliberately underperformed in them—which was a questionable approach, especially considering that nothing is guaranteed before the draft.
“At some of those [combine] meetings with certain teams that maybe Shedeur Sanders didn’t really want to go to... I was told that he more or less sandbagged in those interviews... I don’t know if he didn’t take them seriously, what it was, but he did not give it his all in some of those interviews,” Jonathan Jones said.
Former NFL wide receiver Cris Carter publicly placed blame on the Sanders family for the quarterback’s draft-day slide. He also stated that Sanders lost out on a substantial amount of money.
“He didn't get drafted right, it's no speculation ... we're through the draft, he threw away at least $30 to $50 million, at least,” Carter added.
In a recent poll of the most disliked college football players in recent memory, Sanders was named among them. Whether it’s because he’s Deion Sanders’ son or simply because people took issue with his success, the reasoning is up for debate. Regardless, Sanders was one of the top quarterbacks in college football last season.

Recently, Sanders went viral for refusing a jersey swap with Tennessee quarterback Cam Ward at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere.
“Nah. I gotta sell it bruh. I gotta have some type of money. S**t, I’m already down,” Sanders told Ward.
Although Sanders’ name has drawn criticism, he’s now in a position where he could potentially emerge as the Browns' starting quarterback.
