The Cleveland Browns reportedly have their future depth chart in mind when it comes to what their quarterback pecking order will look like, and it does not bode well for fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders.
According to Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns will give first-team reps to Kenny Pickett.
“It’s a tough call before we’ve even seen the first practice of organized team activities, but I know Kenny Pickett heads in as the frontrunner to win the starting job at the outset," Cabot said. "He’ll take the initial first-team reps in OTAs and probably the mandatory minicamp, and it seems like it’s his job to try to keep for now.”
This is surprising for a few reasons. One, the Browns not giving Joe Flacco starting reps would be a shock. Cabot adds that Flacco will make it hard to take him off the field.
“Flacco’s big arm will dazzle in camp, and it will be hard to keep him off the field, especially because he’ll be fighting so hard to win the battle.”
It will be an uphill battle for rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, who will have to battle each other, as well as the two veterans to earn reps and try to prove themselves as capable starters.
