NBA MVP award announcement severely delayed compared to past seasons

5 hours ago 1

The conference finals series are about to start up and we have yet to hear who the winner of the 24-25 NBA MVP is.

We just saw a Western Conference Semifinals series that featured the two leading candidates, but the MVP is a regular season award that's not supposed to be impacted based on the results of the postseason.

"When he gets that MVP trophy, everybody will know he won it on the court and in the ballot box" said ESPN's Brian Windhorst about SGA's Game 7 performance.

It hasn't been clear yet when it will be announced, and we continue to get other awards announced throughout all the anticipation of the sole award people want to know the winner of.

Fans joked that the MVP trophy should be given to the winner of Game 7, but it almost feels like the series is influencing the award at this point with how far into the postseason we are with no announcement.

With how delayed it has been compared to past years, it's hard to imagine we would have to wait longer than a week before it's announced, but no signs point towards guaranteeing that yet.

This has been viewed as one of the closer MVP races in recent history, with two elite candidates Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as the frontrunners.

With two great matchups for conference finals series, this isn't a story that the league would want to overshadow the brilliance of play we expect in these series, but it is odd that we are past the conference semifinals with no announcement yet.
