San Diego Comic-Con attendees got a thrilling first look at Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy today, as WEBTOON Entertainment unveiled the opening sequence of the highly anticipated live-action adaptation to a packed crowd. The exclusive preview followed a panel celebrating the film’s upcoming U.S. theatrical release, slated for August 1.

The opening five minutes introduced audiences to Dokja, the story’s protagonist, who reflects on how he became the sole reader of Three Ways to Survive in a Ruined World, a mysterious apocalyptic webnovel. What begins as an obsession quickly turns life-altering, as Dokja finds himself thrust into the world of the novel itself.

Based on the hit WEBTOON series created by SingNSong, the original webcomic has garnered over 2.2 billion views globally. The live-action adaptation marks the first installment in a planned five-film saga and stars global icons Lee Minho, Ahn Hyoseop, and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo.

Panelists included Megan Peters (Deputy Editor, Screen Rant), Ryan Lee (Head of Content, WEBTOON), Vi Ma (Head of North American Marketing for 213 Pictures), and Miles Atherton (Editor, Anime By the Numbers). Together, they discussed the story’s widespread appeal, exploring its powerful themes of reality versus fiction, moral ambiguity, and the evolving bond between readers and the characters they love.

With a high-profile cast and a massive built-in fanbase, Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy is poised to become one of this summer’s most buzzworthy releases.
