Team India wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson was dismissed for two runs off four deliveries after being trapped in front by pacer Nathan Ellis in the second T20I against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday, October 31. The right-handed batter could not make the most of his promotion to No.3 as he departed right after Shubman Gill, back into the pavilion.
Sanju Samson came out to bat in the third over of the innings and began his innings on a promising note, as he dispatched Josh Hazlewood over the off-side infield for a couple of runs. He was up against Nathan Ellis in the next over, and was beaten off the very first ball against him.
During the next delivery, Samson was caught all ends up against a sharp nip-backer by the pacer. He was hit on his back leg as the Australians launched a massive appeal to the umpire. After being adjudged out, the wicket-keeper batter took a desperate review. However, the ball tracking showed that the ball would have hit the leg stump, and the on-field umpire's initial decision stayed. Have a look at the moment right here:
Sanju Samson had earned a similar promotion in the batting order during the 2025 Asia Cup group stage match against Oman. However, on that occasion, he had struck a well-compiled fifty.
Team India in trouble after losing Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav following Sanju Samson's dismissal in AUS vs IND 2025 2nd T20I
The Men in Blue were reduced to 23-2 in the fourth over after Ellis trapped Samson LBW. The visitors' crisis ramped up after Josh Hazlewood struck twice in the fifth over to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.
At the time of writing, the Australian pace spearhead is set to bowl his fourth over on the trot as India posted 40-4 in the powerplay phase. The left-handed pair of Abhishek Sharma and Axar Patel are currently sharing the crease to rescue the innings.
