Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter’s NFL journey has hit an early roadblock. The two-way star suffered a non-contact knee injury during Thursday’s practice, which forced the team to place him on injured reserve ahead of Sunday’s Week 9 clash against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Head coach Liam Coen confirmed the news on Friday. He informed that Hunter will miss at least four games as the Jaguars await further test results.

The timing couldn’t be worse. Jacksonville had planned to feature Hunter more on offense following the Week 8 bye, capitalizing on his playmaking ability that made him a first-round pick.

As soon as the injury update dropped, NFL fans swarmed social media to voice their reactions, and some didn’t hold back. One fan posted,
“Biggest bust of 2025 Draft.”Biggest bust of the 2025 draft?!
Others mocked the rookie’s two-way workload, with one comment reading,
“Man’s been doing double duty so long his knee finally filed for overtime pay.”Man’s been doing double duty so long his knee finally filed for overtime pay 😅🦵
He was probably on too much D at practice
Instead, the Jaguars will now turn to Brian Thomas Jr., Dyami Brown, Parker Washington, and Tim Patrick to fill the void. Hunter is first eligible to return in Week 13 against the Tennessee Titans — but until then, the Jaguars’ offense will have to regroup without their most electric rookie.
Travis Hunter gets honest review from Raiders HC Pete Carroll
Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll didn't hold back when it comes to praising Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Travis Hunter ahead of their Week 9 matchup. His team is coming off a brutal 31-0 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, but the Raiders are hungry for a bounce-back win against a 4-3 Jaguars squad clinging to AFC playoff contention.
Before Travis Hunter's injury news became public, Carroll praised the Jaguars WR, knowing pretty well that his defense will have its hands full.
“He’s not just a good fast kid that can play ball,” Carroll stated on '1 on 1. “He’s got great instincts. That’s why he can play on both sides of the football.” (07:20)Carroll also recalled asking Hunter at the combine about handling double duty. The rookie’s reply?
“Heck no, I’ve always played both ways.” “That’s what makes him unique,” Carroll added. “He’s not just a catch guy, he’s a catch-and-run guy who blocks, too.”It will be interesting to see how the Jaguars fill the void caused by Travis Hunter's injury.
