The Buffalo Sabres signed a new goaltender to an $825,000 contract in the offseason.
He didn't stick around long.
Alexander Georgiev is leaving the NHL. He's going to sign with Spartak in the KHL, according to Sportsnet.
Georgiev originally seemed to have a chance to contribute in the NHL with Buffalo, but that didn't happen.
Instead, he barely even played in the AHL.
With the Rochester Americans, Georgiev played in two games. He had a 3.57 goals against average and an .896 save percentage.
The Sabres had placed Georgiev on unconditional waivers in order to terminate his contract in Sunday.
He came to Buffalo after splitting last season between the Avalanche and the Sharks.
Georgiev is 29 years old and a 6-foot-1 lefty. He's originally from Ruse, Bulgaria.
It's not clear whether Georgiev will eventually make a return to the NHL.
For now, he'll go try to get himself more playing time at Spartak.
