Russell Westbrook is getting a promotion.
On Friday night, Russ will be in the Sacramento Kings' starting lineup.
Westbrook has been coming off the bench, and performing well.
In the starting five has been the veteran point guard Dennis Schroeder, who has been a turnstile defensively and not good enough offensively to make up for it.
And so the Kings have made the call to start Russ on Friday night against the Minnesota Timberwolves in NBA Cup action.
Westbrook is averaging 14.5 points per game this season, which is his best mark since 2022-23.
The former triple-double superstar is also grabbing 6.2 rebounds and dishing out 5.8 assists per game while also averaging a steal a night.
Westbrook has improved his 3-point shooting, too. He is at 39.7% from 3-point range.
The Kings are a team full of veterans. They start the likes of Zach LaVine and DeMar DeRozan, too.
Westbrook was a new addition this season. He spent a long time in free agency before finally landing in Sacramento.
There have been doubts about Westbrook in recent years as to how much he can impact winning. He can certainly still put up numbers, though.
Earlier this season, Westbrook had a game of 23 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists.
Now he's in the starting lineup, and his lengthy career marches on.
