Ruben Amorim has claimed that Manchester United are not planning any changes to their squad in the January window. He said that they have had no conversations about signing players, and the focus remains on the upcoming matches.
Speaking to the media ahead of the Leeds United clash in the Premier League, Amorim ruled out any winter signings, saying they have not held any discussions about transfers. He added that they want to get back into the UEFA Champions League next season and said (via ESPN):
"The transfer window is not going to change. We have no conversations at this moment to have any change in the squad. There's a process, there's an idea that is going to continue. We are near the places of the Champions League, but we are also near like eight teams behind us. So let's focus on the next game, just that. Our focus is to win the next game."Amorim spoke about the transfer done in the summer window while he was talking to the club website earlier this week. He did not want to take credit for getting the transfers right and said:
“I don't know, sometimes you need a little bit of luck. I think they [new signings] have the potential to do more. I think we are doing things… sometimes I have one idea, Jason and the board has another idea, and every decision that we make, we need to reach a common ground and that is really important." "Because you don't need to make everything for the manager, because the manager can change, and then you need to change everything. But you also need to understand that the manager understands the way of playing. We are trying with every player that comes here. If you don't reach common ground, the player will not come. We just try to do that."Manchester United signed Sanne Lammens, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo in the summer, and they have been key players this season. Benjamin Sesko remains the only big signing who has not managed to hit the ground running.
Ruben Amorim on Manchester United's selection process
Ruben Amorim revealed that Manchester United keep an eye on the player's off-pitch life as well as their on-pitch contribution while picking their players. He named Matheus Cunha and Ayden Heaven as examples and said:
"We try to make all of the assessments of how they live, how they train, their characteristics. I think we did well, but I think they have more to give. If you talk about Cunha, for example, Ayden is a young guy, but Cunha and Bryan are from here, from our league, so it is easier for them to perform.”Manchester United sit sixth in the Premier League table, level on points with fifth-placed Chelsea.
