Red Sox trade rumor on Jarren Duran gets update after Alex Bregman's departure

1 hour ago 2

There have been plenty of trade rumors floating around with the Boston Red Sox this offseason. While they've added Johan Oviedo, Sonny Gray, and Willson Contreras, some other additions could be on the horizon, with the infield the target.

But the Red Sox might not only be adding players to this roster. After Alex Bregman left to join the Chicago Cubs, the team signed Ranger Suarez, making a 10-man deep rotation, which will likely spark trade rumors.

And beyond the rotation, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reveals that the Red Sox trade plans with Jarren Duran haven't changed despite the departure of Bregman, and the rest of the offseason moves this winter.

Red Sox still likely to trade Jarren Duran

"Anthony is all but off the table," McCaffrey writes, "but Duran remains a likely trade candidate given his $7.7 million salary for 2026."

Of the team's four outfielders, the Red Sox are more likely to trade away Duran than any of the others. Roman Anthony is going nowhere, and the team wants to keep Wilyer Abreu and Ceddane Rafaela.

Duran, despite another strong season in 2025, with 4.7 bWAR and a very solid .774 OPS, is the most likely player to be dealt this winter from the Red Sox outfield.

Even though he's a good player, the Red Sox don't have a clear spot for him on the roster, and he would bring back a strong return that could better help the team than he could provide on the roster.

His name was in trade rumors during the season, and those rumors have continued this winter. Even though he's a solid player and has three years of club control left, the Red Sox aren't likely to trade any other outfielder in a crowded room.

Duran is seemingly the odd man out, and the All-Star outfielder will surely have plenty of interest from around the league.

Boston's front office is going to be fielding plenty of trade calls in the next few weeks, thanks to their rotation depth and a clearer picture of their spending, thanks to Suarez's $130 million deal.
