The New York Giants are expected to hire John Harbaugh as their next head coach, and there is already one known candidate for the defensive coordinator position.
According to SNY's Connor Hughes, Harbaugh is eyeing Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver.
"Anthony Weaver is among the candidates John Harbaugh is targeting at defensive coordinator, I’m told," Hughes reported.
Weaver spent the past two seasons with the Miami Dolphins as their defensive coordinator, but he's set to depart after Miami fired Mike McDaniel recently.
Since then, Weaver has garnered interest for multiple head-coach vacancies, which shows just how respected of a defensive play-caller he is.
Weaver has a strong connection with Harbaugh, as he served on the former Baltimore Ravens head coach's staff from 2021-23.
He was a defensive line coach, while also holding the positions of defensive run-game coordinator and assistant head coach.
Before taking the job in Baltimore, Weaver served as the Houston Texans' defense coordinator and defensive line coach. He also held the latter position in stints with the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns before arriving in Houston.
This is the first known defensive coordinator candidate for the Giants.
When it comes to offensive coordinator, the Giants appear to already have their guy in Harbaugh's former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, who is widely viewed as the runaway favorite to take the job.
New York can't hire Monken right away, though, as the team has to satisfy The Rooney Rule first.
