There has not been a whole lot to cheer about over the last few years if you are a Chicago White Sox fan. However, the club provided a little spark last season.
Colson Montgomery, the club's top prospect, made his debut in the middle of the season, and he was a sight for sore eyes. He crushed home runs left and right, giving the fans in Chicago some hope.
Then came the offseason, which typically is not too interesting for the White Sox, but not this year. They surprised many when they went out and signed Munetaka Murakami to a two-year deal, further laying the foundation for this club.

White Sox could cap off an explosive offseason by focusing on the rotation
Outside of Murakami, the White Sox also struck deals with Anthony Kay, Sean Newcomb, and Jarred Kelenic. And while they added two arms, the starting rotation is still a weak spot.
Shane Smith will lead the rotation, followed by Davis Martin, but then it gets a little fuzzy. Sean Burke could be the No. 3, but he struggled with command last year, while Kay and Newcomb could work as the No. 4 and 5.
With Newcomb trying to reinvent himself as a starter, it would be smart for the White Sox to have another reliable arm in the rotation. Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller believes signing Martin Perez or Griffin Canning could be at play here.
"Pitching of any sort is a clear need, and with a payroll currently sitting at barely $90M, they certainly could afford to make a significant splash if they think that investing now is a worthwhile approach. More likely, though, a short-term reunion with LHP Martin Perez or a buy-low flyer on RHP Griffin Canning coming off Achilles surgery is probably the play here."
While the White Sox have the money to spend, coming to terms with a top arm while they are still rebuilding might not be the play. Instead, a reunion with Martin Perez, who played a big role last season, or taking a flyer on Griffin Cannin look like a more realistic move from this team if they go this route.
