Red Sox star Alex Bregman leaves Orioles game with apparent lower-body injury

Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman left the first game of the doubleheader versus the Baltimore Orioles with right quad tightness on Friday.

In the fifth inning, Bregman lined a single off the Green Monster and slowed up after he strongly rounded first base.

As soon as Bregman retreated to first base, he motioned to manager Alex Cora and the training staff that something was wrong and immediately went into the dugout and down the tunnel.

This would be a horrible loss for the Red Sox if Bregman needs to miss significant time as he has been their best hitter.

Bregman, 31, signed a three-year, $120 million deal with Boston late in the offseason. Bregman got off to an amazing start with his new team, hitting .299 with a .938 OPS in 51 games after going 1-for-2 prior to his exit today.

An injury to Bregman would likely move star third baseman Rafael Devers back to his position after he was moved to designated hitter to make room for Bregman.

The Red Sox have already dealt with key injuries this season, including losing first baseman Triston Casas for the season on May 2.

Nick Sogard and Abraham Toro have been manning first base with Casas down and Romy Gonzalez on the injured list as well. Both could possibly rotate between first and third base if Cora and the Red Sox want to keep Devers in the DH role.
