The Boston Red Sox are on a roll recently, trying to dig themselves out of the deep hole they put themselves into earlier this season. If they can climb out of it, a postseason run isn’t out of the question.
However, if they stumble and totally fall out of contention, they will need to address a few positions on their roster. They were able to solidify their rotation, first base and third base, but there’s still a few weak spots on the roster.
DH needs a slugger

Right now, the Red Sox have been using the DH spot as a committee role; a player that needs some rest from the field just takes the DH slot, and only hits for that game. To start the season, it was split between Roman Anthony and Jarren Duran to solve the logjam in the outfield. However, with Anthony’s injury, it got downgraded to a committee role.
What Boston should do is find someone to fill it, permanently. They literally had the greatest perma-DH of all time in David Ortiz, who won them three World Series.
The last time they did it was with J.D. Martinez, and they won a World Series with him and his 30-40+ home run bat. If the Red Sox could find another slugger like him, who doesn’t boast much defensively, and could power up the offense that can tend to stagnate.
Shortstop is up in the air

Right now, the position of shortstop has two guys to fill it, but both of them really aren’t up to the task offensively.
First, Trevor Story has held it for years, but he’s been way too injury prone to be of any real help. Now Marcelo Mayer has it, but he hasn’t been hitting well either, and has been injury prone himself.
Boston needs to find a sturdy shortstop who can hit well, or find a way to help Mayer grow quickly. Either way, Story’s time as the starting shortstop is pretty much over.
Catcher needs a facelift

Right now, the catcher position needs a bit of a facelift. Last year, Carlos Narvaez was solid, and Connor Wong was struggling. This year, it’s been the opposite. However, neither is the star hitter Boston needs from the position.
If one of them could either just break through, and the other just becomes average, that would be perfect. Otherwise, Boston should look for another catcher. Uniting the Contreras brothers comes to mind, as William will be a free agent by 2027.
If Boston could find upgrades for these three positions with their current roster, they would be unstoppable. Hopefully, they do, and Boston goes back to being a perennial contender.
