Red Sox could solve another lineup need by trading for Blue Jays All-Star George Springer

With only two days until the trade deadline, the Boston Red Sox have to get the gears turning on some potential deals that can take their team from a shaky contender to the real deal.  

While they definitely need to get one bonafide slugger, getting a second supporting one should be on the table as well, especially due to the Curtis Mead injury. Luckily, a division rival might be able to give them exactly what they need.

The Blue Jays are 50-59 right now, and 5.5 games back in the Wild Card race. It would be logical to assume that they’ll be sellers at the deadline, and will retool over the offseason to prepare for next year. 

With that in mind, one of their top players to shop will probably be their four-time All-Star DH George Springer could be one of their best hitters available. The 36-year-old is on an expiring contract so he would be a rental, which means any interested suitor wouldn’t have to give up much.

According to CBS Sports’ Julian McWilliams, Springer, a New England native, is also rumored to be interested in Boston as a potential landing spot, which could work out for the Red Sox when it comes to making a deal.

Springer is made for Fenway Park

Thanks to his six years in Toronto, the Red Sox have a really good idea of how Springer would do in Fenway. For his career, he’s hit .323/.400/.540/.940 with nine doubles, 10 home runs, and 41 RBI in 51 games in Boston. 

His swing is perfect for Boston, as seen by those stats. While he is only hitting .234/.317/.403/.719 with 13 doubles, 12 home runs, and 34 RBI in 78 games this season, playing in Fenway would definitely pump those numbers up.

Since he would be a rental, Boston wouldn’t have to give up much for him. Also according to McWilliams, Boston is willing to move Jarren Duran at the deadline, and a straight up Duran for Springer deal might be in everyone’s best interest.
