"Pick your poison." Those are the three words that haunt defenses when facing the Baltimore Ravens. The backfield of Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry has worked like a charm 10 weeks into the 2024 season. When Henry decided to join Baltimore in the offseason, it was deemed as a potential unstoppable move, as he would be paired with Jackson.
It's been that and more. Jackson has had an incredible season thus far, as he leads the league in touchdown passes (24), yards per attempt (9.3) and passer rating (123.2). Jackson's thrown for 2,669 yards while rushing for another 538 with two touchdowns. In 10 games this year, he's already tied the amount of touchdown passes he had all of last season. That's significant considering he won league MVP in 2023, so Jackson's on track to shatter his previous award-winning season.
Pro Football Network gave out their NFL midseason awards, naming Jackson as the runaway MVP.
Lamar Jackson is the best regular-season quarterback of this decade and arguably the NFL’s best since Peyton Manning. While there are fair criticisms about his performance in the playoffs (Jackson is 2-4 with as many touchdowns as interceptions), the Baltimore Ravens QB is simply unstoppable from September through January.
As for his counterpart, Henry's been traumatizing defenses all season. He has 1,120 yards and 12 touchdowns while averaging an absurd 6.1 yards per carry. Henry has scored in each game this season, the only player in the league to do so this year. He's 47 yards shy of tying his rushing yards from last season and has already matched his touchdown total. At this rate, Henry's on pace for a ridiculous 1,904 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns. This is why Pro Football Network named him the Offensive Player of the Year.
Through 10 games, the future Hall of Fame leads the NFL in carries (184), rushing yards (1,120), yards per carry (6.1), rushing touchdowns (12), scrimmage yards (1,216), and offensive touchdowns (14). While he probably won’t eclipse the absurd 2,027 rushing yards he posted in 2020, an argument can be made that what he’s doing this year is even more impressive. He’s averaging a full yard per carry more now than he did then.
Baltimore's now in a race for the AFC North division crown, with a critical matchup on Sunday against the first place Pittsburgh Steelers. The Jackson-Henry duo will look to continue to carry the Ravens for the rest of the season.
