The Las Vegas have new decision makers in town, as John Spytek was brought in to be the general manager and Pete Carroll was brought in to be the head coach.
As a result, there are plenty of new faces on the roster. In free agency, the team added quality defenders like Elandon Roberts and Jeremy Chinn, and then in the 2025 NFL Draft, the team added elite offensive pieces Ashton Jeanty and Jack Bech, among others.
However, even with all the new talent, the team will still likely pay to keep an old friend around. Kolton Miller is a reliable starting left tackle, and the veteran is due to hit free agency next offseason.
Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports recently identified one player that each team should extend soon. For the Raiders, Sullivan predictably identified Miller.
Regarding a potential Miller extension, Sullivan offered the following:
Miller is entering the final year of his three-year, $54 million extension he signed with Las Vegas back in 2021. Despite a desire for a new deal, the 29-year-old was present for OTAs, which could be a sign that things are progressing nicely. Given the nature of his position, Miller is likely seeking a big contract, especially after a 2024 season where he was the 14th highest-graded tackle in the NFL.
As Sullivan mentioned, Miller is entering a contract year but has still been around the team, which suggests there are ongoing talks that are going well.
That's a good thing, because Miller has been one of the most consistent tackles in the league during his career. In his seven-year career, Miller has never played in fewer than 13 games in a season. Miller has played in at least 16 games five times, showcasing his durability.
The lineman played in all 17 games in 2024 and earned an 80.6 Pro Football Focus grade, which ranked 14th out of 140 qualified tackles. The veteran was even better in pass protection and ended with an 82.2 grade.
Keeping Miller around is crucial for the Raiders, who don't have the best offensive line otherwise. Also, Miller is only 29, meaning he should have several quality years of play left in his career.
Spotrac projects Miller to land a four-year deal worth $19.7 million annually. That would only make Miller around the 12th-highest paid left tackle, which could end up being a team-friendly deal for the Raiders.
Miller is set to carry a cap hit of over $15 million in 2025, and it's likely that cap hit will only get bigger over the next several years.
