Raiders' Kirk Cousins, Fernando Mendoza QB competition may be masking a bigger issue

It's been fun to follow the offseason action with the Las Vegas Raiders, as they juggle between veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins and rookie Fernando Mendoza. But, there's more to this team than just the quarterback position.

Sure, the signal-caller is the heart of any NFL team's offense. But, there's no way a quarterback can win games without a solid offense and defense around him. That's why the Raiders would be smart to look at the rest of their lineup and take some time away from quarterback for a moment.

Josh Edwards of CBS Sports has a piece out rattling off one position each NFL team should look at before the roster deadline has passed. For the Raiders, it's a spot that has nothing to do with quarterback.

Raiders need to beef up their linebacker room

For the Raiders, he says they absolutely need to beef up their linebacker position. He names this position the biggest roster hole that needs attention before the roster deadline.

"Las Vegas brought in former Georgia teammates Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker to solve the long-standing problem at linebacker," he states in the piece. "Depth beyond those two is relatively unproven and could be addressed."

He adds, "Tight end is another area to monitor."

So, the gist is that Vegas doesn't have hardly any good depth in their linebacker room, and that could quickly become an issue. This team would be wise to make an addition here before it's too late. Tight end is another story, but yes, that's one that would really help Cousins and Mendoza when it comes to key targets.
