Pirates' Spencer Horwitz could be a major steal for fantasy owners

1 hour ago 2

Many fantasy owners have decided to wait until the conclusion of the World Baseball Classic to do their drafts. This ensures that owners will not get the short end of the stick, drafting someone high, but they suffer a major injury in the tournament.

So, many owners are getting ready to make their picks this week. But, who to target?

Much of the first round will include the same top names over the last few years, like Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Judge, and Bobby Witt Jr. However, some of these leagues are won and lost with the late-round picks. There are a ton of players who could be great late-round options, and some that should probably stay undrafted.

Pirates' Spencer Horwitz could be a major steal for fantasy owners

One player who could be a late-round option is the Pittsburgh Pirates' Spencer Horwitz. He, like many other MLB players, has gotten a jump on the competition with his involvement with Team Israel in the WBC.

He's not a top first baseman, but he should be someone that fantasy owners consider. Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter tags him as one of the most undervalued first-base eligible players.

"With a better supporting cast, Horwitz could put together a more robust fantasy season in 2026. He quietly hit .272/.353/.434 with 11 home runs and 51 RBI in 108 games last season as one of the few above-average producers for baseball's worst offense, and now he'll be slotted alongside newcomers Marcell Ozuna, Brandon Lowe, and Ryan O'Hearn."

With the head start in the WBC and the much better supporting cast that Pittsburgh picked up over the winter, Horwitz could potentially have a career year.

Pittsburgh could certainly use that as they continue to try to make a mark in the National League Central. And after years of not making much noise, they could surprise a ton of baseball fans this season.
