The San Francisco 49ers have been making a lot of noise this offseason, with their blockbuster signing of Mike Evans away from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and trade for Osa Odighizuwa from the Dallas Cowboys.
Those are fun additions, as they give the offense and defense two veterans at key positions of need. However, there's a bit more to the 49ers' offseason than these simple additions.
Bleacher Report's Alex Ballentine gave the 49ers a 1-word assessment for their offseason moves thus far, and it's an uncomfortable description: "Urgency." This is not where the 49ers want to be, as acting with too much urgency can lead to mistakes.
49ers acting with 'urgency' amid offseason moves
"San Francisco 49ers: Urgency," Ballentine writes. "Time might be running out for the 49ers to win the whole thing with their current core. That's why all-in moves like signing a 32-year-old Mike Evans and giving up a third-rounder for Osa Odighizuwa make sense."
While the 49ers might be doing the right thing amid their uncertain future, that doesn't take away from the uncomfortable feeling of acting with urgency this offseason.
As the 49ers go all-in to try and win a Super Bowl with their current core, they will have a very difficult path through the also all-in Los Angeles Rams and the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
And those are just the teams in the NFC West. The Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles both pose as serious threats to the 49ers in 2026.

With George Kittle coming off an Achilles injury, and the 49ers also getting Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams, two very key edge defenders, back from ACL tears, the 49ers are not going to be 100 percent for the 2026 season. Fred Warner is also coming off an injury.
There might be concerns about Bosa, Williams, Warner, and Kittle, a few of the team's best players, coming off injury. But that's not all. Evans also didn't play a full season in 2025, and might not be the superstar wide receiver he's been before.
The 49ers are also facing uncertain futures with Trent Williams amid a contract standoff, and with Christian McCaffrey, with his injury issues of years past.

For a team putting their eggs all into the next year or so, the 49ers are dealing with a lot of injuries and uncertain variables for the 2026 season.
This 1-word assessment, "Urgency," is an uncomfortable place for the 49ers to live, especially with the issues on the roster right now.
While the 49ers should be a top Super Bowl contender, there are enough concerns with the team that this all-in plan could backfire.
It might be presumptuous to be so concerned now, but with the issues present on the roster and how the 49ers are running out of time, the all-in, urgent nature of the offseason is a slight cause for concern.
