2026 has been a trying season for Philadelphia Phillies No. 1 prospect (16th in MLB), infielder Aidan Miller, who has barely appeared on the field after suffering a back injury in spring training. A foundational piece of the Phillies' future, Miller has slowly started baseball activities, which is a glimmer of hope that he could be close to returning soon.
Miller's absence has affected his prospect status, with him trending downward.
Philadelphia Phillies' Aidan Miller's prospect status was lowered due to a back injury
In ESPN's latest ranking of Major League Baseball prospects, Miller dropped from being in the top 10 (10th) to 16th. According to ESPN's Kiley McDaniel, the back injury is the reason for the drop in rank for Miller, who was drafted in the first round (27th overall) in the 2023 MLB Draft.
"A back issue has sidelined Miller since the spring, so he slides back within this tier, but the preseason scouting evaluation stays the same," wrote McDaniel.

Not having Miller available has hurt the Phillies, as they could have used him when third baseman Alec Bohm and second baseman Bryson Stott were struggling. However, with Bohm (.339 batting average and 1.008 OPS in his last 15 games) and Stott (.288 with a .898 OPS in his last 15 games) doing well, the need for Miller has tamped down.
Seeing Miller this season is likely out of the question, as the Phillies will opt to get their 21-year-old healthy rather than rushing him to help the offense. Miller will be untouchable in trade talks this summer, as Bohm is a pending free agent after this season, so getting him ready for next season will be the goal moving forward, no matter how long it takes.
