Pittsburgh Penguins fans surely don't want to see Evgeni Malkin go anywhere.
That would've been true no matter what, but given the positive season that an aging Penguins team is having, there's likely even more sentimentality for an all-time great who has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh.
Malkin is heading toward a pivot point late in his career, though. At the end of this season, his contract is up.
He's been asked about potential extension talks throughout this season, and it has mostly sounded like nothing is going on that front.
He has also expressed, though, that he doesn't want to go anywhere. So it sounds more like the Penguins' front office, led by GM Kyle Dubas, has to get things in order to keep Malkin around going forward.

On Monday night, Malkin shared with reporters what feels like a bit of a positive update.
"I talked to Kyle like two weeks ago," Malkin said.
And?
"He said 'Don't worry we'll talk in the summer,'" Malkin concluded.
Pittsburgh fans are really hoping "don't worry" also applies to them. Seeing Malkin in a different jersey would be a very odd feeling.
They'd much rather see the big center back in Penguins colors for as long as he wants to play, keeping the all-time triumvirate going with Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang.
And at least as far as updates go, "don't worry" feels like a decent one.
