Patriots trade rumor gives Cowboys, Eagles, 49ers and Lions low-cost EDGE target

The New England Patriots reportedly have an edge rusher for sale ahead of the trade deadline and it presents the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Detroit Lions a low-cost option.

According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Patriots are making outside linebacker Anfernee Jennings available at the trade deadline.

"Sources: While the Patriots are in buying mode, one player they’ve been shopping is OLB Anfernee Jennings. Jennings started 30 games over the past two seasons but hasn’t started a game this year under the new defensive staff," Schultz reported.

A former third-round pick of the Patriots, Jennings' career has been a disappointment, as he's tallied just 6.5 sacks in four-plus seasons.

That doesn't exactly scream impact player, but Jennings would be a worthwhile addition for teams looking for more depth, and he won't cost much, either.

The Niners and Eagles have already made additions to their edge rusher groups with the trades for Keion White and Jaelan Phillips, respectively, but there's no doubt the two teams could use more depth thanks to injuries.

As of this writing, the Cowboys haven't made any moves to upgrade their edge group that has been lackluster to say the least this season and Dallas needs both starting and backup options.

The Lions have sported an effective pass-rush but are short on bodies behind Aidan Hutchinson and Al-Quadin Muhammad, so a trade for Jennings would make sense for Detroit.

One attractive thing about Jennings is that he's under contract through 2026, so he could be more than a rental. And, he shouldn't cost much, either, as he'll likely garner a late-Day 3 pick or a Day-3 pick swap.
