The New England Patriots have a new running back.
They needed to at least consider such a move this week after the concussion for rookie TreVeyon Henderson on Sunday night. With Henderson injured, the Pats' only two healthy RBs on the active roster are Rhamondre Stevenson and D'Ernest Johnson.
Now, they've got another back, signed to the practice squad: Elijah Mitchell.
The NFL's transactions report indicated that the Patriots signed Mitchell on Tuesday.
Mitchell was recently released by the Kansas City Chiefs.

He entered the NFL in 2021 as a sixth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers out of Louisiana.
In three seasons healthy with the 49ers, Mitchell played in 27 games and had 1,523 rushing yards with nine touchdowns.
Mitchell missed the 2024 season with injury.
This offseason, the Chiefs acquired Mitchell to potentially add some RB depth. But then he played in just a single game and didn't get a carry, drawing a single target.
Mitchell won't be counted on for a big role in New England unless more injuries happen. But at just 27 years old, Mitchell should still have some juice left in the tank, and the Pats are giving him a shot.
