Packers and Steelers named possible free-agent suitors for former Super Bowl champion

The Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers both figure to be in the market for a cornerback this offseason.

The Steelers have two notable pending free agents at the position in James Pierre and Asante Samuel Jr., and Jalen Ramsey is a possible cut candidate.

In Green Bay, the Packers have already cut ties with Trevon Diggs and could use more competition in their room.

With all that in mind, CBS Sports' Zachary Pereles believes the Packers are the best landing spot for Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback and pending free agent, Jamel Dean.

But Pereles also believes the Steelers, San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets could make a play for the former Super Bowl champion.

The Packers forced just 14 turnovers last season, tied for fourth-fewest in the NFL. In steps Dean, who had three interceptions and returned one for a touchdown. Other suitors: Jets, 49ers, Steelers

Dean is coming off a season in which he posted some of the best coverage numbers of his career. His 49.2% completion rate when targeted and 63.1 passer rating given were both the second-best marks of his career.

Dean also posted a 76.9 Pro Football Focus coverage grade, which ranked ninth among cornerbacks.

The biggest issue with Dean is his availability, as the 29-year-old has never played a full season in his entire career, with 15 games being the most he has appeared in during a season. Even still, Dean is going to draw interest on the open market.

Dean would make sense for both the Packers and Steelers, as Pittsburgh and Green Bay need an upgrade on the perimeter.

The trio of Hobbs, Kiesean Nixon and Carrington Valentine left a lot to be desired in Green Bay in 2025, and the Steelers could use a veteran addition opposite Joey Porter Jr.

But we would give the edge to the Steelers in this scenario, as they have a clearer path to work for Dean, and Pittsburgh has the superior situation when it comes to cap space.
