The Baltimore Orioles have spent most of the offseason making sure the core of the roster is in place, adding Pete Alonso.
With the rotation settled and the big deal made, the focus now shifts to adding around the margins.
One of those potential moves is adding Tyler Kinley to the bullpen. Kinley wouldn’t be a big addition, but it fits what Baltimore is looking to do now.
The Orioles already have their late-inning arms set. However, they could use a reliever to come in and eat innings in the middle innings.
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report predicted Baltimore will turn its attention to the bullpen next.
“With Zach Eflin re-signed to put the finishing touches on the Orioles rotation, the focus will now shift to shoring up the relief corps around Ryan Helsley, Andrew Kittredge and Keegan Akin,” Reuter wrote. “The top end of the reliever market has been picked clean, but there are still plenty of solid value plays available on what will likely be one-year or minor league deals.”
Kinley wouldn’t be asked to pitch in the 9th inning or enter in big stops. However, he’d give the Orioles another experienced right-hander who can take the ball when needed and keep games from getting out of hand.
As I always say, contenders can never have enough pitchers. Even if it doesn’t work out, he shouldn’t be expensive, either.
