Novak Djokovic will be gunning for a 25th Grand Slam title in the upcoming season. As he gears up to make history once again, ex-WTA Coach of the Year Renzo Furlan has stated that the Serb has ‘near-impossible’ odds of overcoming both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner en-route to a 25th Major.

Alcaraz and Sinner are currently enjoying an undisrupted reign on top of the men's singles world. The duo have split the last eight Grand Slam trophies evenly between themselves and they are currently ranked World No.1 and 2 on the ATP Tour. As the 2026 season approaches, Furlan recently weighed in on Novak Djokovic’s chances of winning a 25th Major, telling newspaper Nord Est,

"He can do it, but something strange has to happen: Alcaraz has to have a bad day in the early rounds, or Sinner has to suffer a physical problem like in Shanghai. Of course, if he runs into both of them in the semifinals or the final, even he knows it's almost impossible.”

Renzo Furlan is best known for his work with WTA star Jasmine Paolini. The duo worked together for a decade between 2015 and 2025, with Furlan leading the Italian to a career high rank of World No.4, two singles Grand Slam finals, one doubles Grand Slam title and an Olympic gold medal.

Novak Djokovic enjoyed a strong showing in his 2o25 season. The Serb kicked the year off at the Brisbane International, where he made a quarterfinals exit. He then made it to the semifinals of the Australian Open, before suffering early exits at a handful of events. In May, the 38-year-old won his 100th career title at the Geneva Open.

The latter half of the year saw Djokovic reach the semifinals of the remaining three Grand Slams and the Shanghai Masters, before he capped his year off with a triumphant run at the Hellenic Championships. Reflecting on his year in an Instagram post, the former World No.1 wrote,

“2025: game, set and wrapped. A year (and century) to remember. Thank you to every single one of you for your support.”

Novak Djokovic will now begin his 2026 season at the Adelaide International. The ATP 250 tournament commences a week before the Australian Open and will act as a suitable warm-up event for the Serb.
