'Not going to affect me': Dylan Harper isn't bothered by one key Spurs decision

Dylan Harper emerged as one of the biggest contributors to the San Antonio Spurs' unexpected breakthrough last season, which ultimately ended with a Finals defeat to the New York Knicks. Despite the pressure of his rookie campaign, the young guard consistently impressed with his poise and all-around performances.

Sharing the floor with Victor Wembanyama, De'Aaron Fox, and Stephon Castle in a talented and crowded backcourt, Harper embraced every responsibility given to him. He now appears prepared to carry that same team-first mindset into his second season in San Antonio.

When asked if he has any preference between starting or coming off the bench next season, the Spurs guard delivered a humble perspective.

“No, I feel like regardless, I'm in the NBA. There's only like 450 people in the NBA, and I get a chance to go on the court and play with the best of the best,” Harper said.

“I feel like those kinds of things and those logistics at the end of the day, in the big scheme of things, it's not going to affect me and how I approach every day.”

Across 69 regular-season appearances, Harper proved to be one of the league's most efficient rookie guards. He averaged 11.8 points, 3.9 assists, and 3.4 rebounds in 22.6 minutes per game while shooting 50.5% from the field and 34.3% from three-point range.

Whether he was in the starting lineup or leading the second unit, Harper consistently made an impact whenever the Spurs needed him most. His production increased in the 2026 NBA Playoffs, where he averaged 14.1 points per game.

Harper has already cemented himself as a vital piece of San Antonio's long-term core. Ultimately, it's a major positive for head coach Mitch Johnson to have a talented young guard who prioritizes the team's success over individual recognition.
