John Cena's WWE career ended when he tapped out to Gunther and lost his final match in Washington. While The Franchise Player has retired as a performer, Seth Rollins is worried about the company's future.
John Cena dedicated his life to professional wrestling and the Stamford-based promotion for over two decades. The Leader of the Cenation became a household name with his work as a performer before starting a career in Hollywood as an actor. Apart from this, Cena always wanted to cater to the audience and did everything in his power for the fans.
In an interview with Fox News, Seth Rollins discussed the impact of John Cena's in-ring retirement from the promotion. The Visionary stated that Cena will remain true to his words and won't return for another run like other legends in the industry.
"You know, you see all these guys, they go through these retirements, and then they come back and have 16 different unretirement matches and re-retirement matches, whatever. He's not going to do that. John, I promise you will never wrestle another match in his career, and I think you will not get to see another top talent do what John has done. I don't know if any talent would want to," Rollins said. Moreover, Rollins added that he's sad for WWE's future, as the company will look very different without a performer like John Cena, who often gives his all to the promotion and the fans.
"You know, John's the kind of guy that's like, ‘I wanted to go to all these places that I've been for 20-plus years and give the fans one more opportunity to interact with me and to see me perform.’ And so I don't know that we'll ever get that again. And it was a very special year. It'll be very sad to see what the WWE looks like with no John Cena for the foreseeable future," Rollins said. Earlier this year, the management wanted to create a shock value heading into WrestleMania 41 by turning John Cena heel for the first time in two decades. While The Franchise Player became a 17-time WWE World Champion, he met several familiar faces as the blue brand's champion, including CM Punk.
The Leader of the Cenation defended his title against The Straight Edge Star when Punk was already feuding with Seth Rollins. During their title bout in Saudi Arabia, The Visionary tried to cash in his Money in the Bank contract on Cena's title. The champion furiously confronted Rollins, but the entire distraction eventually played out in John Cena's favor, as he left with a win over CM Punk.
