The Australian A-League returns with a fresh set of fixtures as Newcastle Jets and Sydney FC square off at the McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday. Ufuk Talay’s men have lost their most recent three away games in the league and will be looking to end this dry spell.
Newcastle Jets secured their first win of the new A-League campaign last Friday when they thrashed Melbourne Victory 5-2 at the McDonald Jones Stadium.
Before that, Mark Milligan’s side kicked off the league term with a 3-2 defeat against Central Coast Mariners on October 19, when they conceded a gut-wrenching winner in the 98th minute.
Newcastle Jets kicked off the new campaign with a stellar run in the 2025 Australia Cup, where they stormed to the final before claiming a 3-1 victory over Heidelberg to clinch their first title in the competition.
Meanwhile, Víctor Campuzano and Patrick Wood netted second-half goals to fire Sydney FC to a 2-0 victory over Central Coast Mariners at the Allianz Stadium last Saturday.
Before that, Talay’s men saw their Australia Cup journey come to an end in the quarter-finals courtesy of a penalty-shootout loss against Auckland FC on August 23, three weeks before suffering a 2-1 defeat against Adelaide United in the league curtain-raiser.
Sydney have come into the new A-League campaign looking to improve on their performance from last season, where they missed out on the playoffs after finishing seventh in the table.
