Laker Nation is hoping the LA Lakers will win even more championships under the helm of the Walters. Since buying majority ownership of the Dodgers in 2012, the team has won the World Series thrice (2020, 2024 and 2025). Meanwhile, the Lakers have not won the NBA championship since the “Bubble Tournament,” a title many want to put an asterisk on.

The NBA Board of Governors reportedly unanimously approved Mark Walter as the majority owner of the Lakers on Thursday. Walter said after the Dodgers made back-to-back World Series wins that he was “not done yet.” His appearance on Sunday for a Lakers game has sent fans' hope soaring that he could guide the purple and gold franchise to another championship.

Lakers off to a fast start with Mark Walter in the building

The buzz inside Crypto.com Arena for LA Lakers games usually happens because of LeBron James, Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves. Sunday’s noise had a different vibe after Mark Walter’s appearance following the LA Dodgers’ World Series win in Toronto.

With the Walters sitting courtside, the Lakers obliged with a sizzling offensive display to open the game. Doncic and Reaves led the home team to a 43-point opening quarter. The much-maligned Jaxson Hayes, starting for Deandre Ayton, who is out with back spasms, had 11 points, including a rare 3-pointer.

Rui Hachimura, Jake LaRavia, and Jarred Vanderbilt also contributed to the Lakers’ sizzling first 12 minutes.

Mark Walter saw the Lakers struggle in the early goings of the second quarter. Eventually, they padded their lead behind Doncic, who is already flirting with a triple-double.

Fans showed their excitement when Walter arrived. The players responded with arguably their best opening half of the season.
