Naomi Osaka's wins on the court aren't all that is making headlines about the tennis star.

Osaka turned heads with her white Japanese ceremonial dress that she wore ahead of her match against Elsa Jacquemot on Monday, June 29. The two-time US Open champion confidently walked onto the court in her white Kimono and kanzashi hair ornament. She later took off the traditional Japanese dress to unveil a white Nike dress for her match.

The four-time Grand Slam champion spoke to British Vogue ahead of the Jacquemot match about the importance of displaying her Japanese heritage through fashion.

"When I think about Wimbledon obviously it's all white and the oldest tournament," she told the outlet. "There’s the tradition of it all and in my head when I think about that and I think about my culture, my heritage, which is Japanese and Asian, and then if I dive deeper into Japanese culture I think ‌about the most iconic silhouette, which for me is the kimono."

Not only was Osaka honoring her Japanese roots, she also got inspiration from a cult classic film.

"I was thinking about my favourite movies. I love 'Kill Bill' and then I remembered absolutely falling in love with Lucy Liu's character, and she has an all-white kimono," she continued. "I remember thinking that was really cool and amazing.

"It was my interpretation of that and also my ‌respect and love for Japan," she concluded.

Osaka defeated their Jacquemot 6-5, 7-1 in the opening Ladies' Singles match. The tennis star will now face  Anastasia Gasanova or Emiliana Arango in the next round of the tournament.
