MLB analyst still believes in Diamondbacks' free agent pitcher

Although great hitting may get the most attention from national sports outlets and fans, to be among the league's elite, a good bullpen and starting rotation are the most critical components.

Bad pitching can also be the main reason a team is not able to reach its full potential, and that was the case for the Arizona Diamondbacks, who finished last season with an underwhelming 80-82 record, missing the playoffs after just three seasons removed from a World Series appearance in 2023 against the Texas Rangers.

One pitcher who didn't have the best season was an all-star starter, Zac Gallen, who finished with a 13-15 record across 33 starts and an ERA of 4.83. Gallen also appeared more than any other pitcher for the Diamondbacks.

However, it appears the pitcher's time in Arizona may be coming to an end, as the team has yet to re-sign the free agent after months into the offseason and spring training right around the corner, but regardless of how last season, storied MLB analyst Tom Verducci has a strong belief the all-star can still positively affect a team by citing his experience in pitching in big games such as the World Series.

"He can pitch at the front of somebody's rotation. When he's on, he's got that kind of stuff," Verducci stated.

Verducci has a point because Gallen has proven time and again that he is capable of being one of the best pitchers on multiple teams. Although this past season should be taken into account, the many seasons of productive starts deserve greater regard.
