Minn.’s anti-ICE agitators: Letters to the Editor — Jan. 26, 2026

The Issue: Chaos in Minneapolis as anti-ICE protests continue after the death of Renee Nicole Good.

It is hard to believe that we can’t agree that murderers and rapists should be deported as opposed to being let loose in neighborhoods (“Don blasts church ‘agitators,’ ” Jan. 21).

The rioters in Minneapolis interfering with ICE officers performing their lawful duties appear to be committing acts of insurrection against lawful federal authority. They all need to be arrested and charged accordingly.

Democrats persist in labeling Jan. 6 an insurrection. I wonder what they call current protesters’ ongoing and highly organized efforts to hinder and inhibit the lawful efforts of ICE to root out and remove illegal immigrants from our country.

Bob Heier

Estero, Fla.

Radical politicians, protesters and ignorant agitators are harmful enough, but most disturbing is watching children of all ages (in the middle of a school day!) stand alongside the haters holding signs denouncing ICE agents.

Sadly, many of our young are being taught that it’s OK to denounce and obstruct law and order.

Thugs attack and physically assault US residents and citizens who are peacefully protesting in Minnesota, and President Donald Trump and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem bless those thugs and cheer them on.

The protesters over 5,000 miles away on the streets of Iran’s cities who burn and destroy are receiving encouragement from the current American government and not-so-veiled promises of material support for their goal of overthrowing their government.

Do we see the hypocrisy? It’s another ugly reality of continuing to permit Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance to remain in office.

To the people of Minnesota, Oregon and Vermont, I say: Petition to secede from the United States of America so you can achieve your goal of being a socialist or communist entity.

You won’t receive federal funds or be protected by our armed forces. You can join those socialist countries whose people are starving and have no human rights.

The Issue: Gov. Hochul’s proposed multibillion-dollar spending hikes for the new state budget.

New York is no doubt the undisputed champion of wasteful Medicaid spending (“Fed problem with Hochul Medicaid $$,” Jan. 22).

The $15 billion increase under Hochul is largely due to the policy of paying family members as caregivers for sick relatives. With no skills or training, these family members can rack up hundreds of dollars per day to provide care with no oversight.

Another hole in the bucket comes from the decision to provide Medicaid coverage for 700,000 noncitizens. These policies act as a magnet for illegals, scammers and freeloaders.

President Trump is taking aim at the allocation of federal aid to blue states like New York who claim sanctuary status, defy federal laws yet expect support from federal funds.

Robert Mangi

Garden City

Once again, New York’s failed politicians embark on a vote-buying spree, privately understanding the consequences but publicly lauding the arrival of nirvana.

There is no end to the massive spending on “education,” which achieves nothing. Add to that the waste, fraud and abuse of Medicaid spending, and you watch the failed political class dance New York blissfully toward Armageddon.

Will New York voters ever learn?
