Matthew McConaughey is one of the Texas Longhorns' biggest fans. The famous actor regularly attends the team's games, and he was in attendance for their matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 12.

However, McConaughey was seen leaving the stadium with the Longhorns trailing in the fourth quarter. His "ditching" of his beloved team sparked conversation among college football fans on X (formerly Twitter).

A fan said, "Minister of Douchebaggery."

Another added, "Matthew McConaughey is the Texas Taylor Swift. Horns down, Go Dawgs." One wrote, "I know he has to have been and I don’t remember but what was the last big game with Texas that he’s been on field and they’ve won? RRR this year probably but other than that seems like if he’s there then they ain’t winning."

Some fans weren't as critical.

One said, "He gave up. Poor Matthew." Another added, "Made him quit."

One chimed in, saying, "The mascot leaving early….sigh…"

Matthew McConaughey was raised in Texas and attended Longview High School before gaining admission to study at the University of Texas at Austin. He bagged his Bachelor of Science in Radio-Television-Film in 1993.

McConaughey has been attending Longhorns games for years and will likely return before the end of the campaign.

Texas could miss College Football Playoffs for the first time since 2022

The Texas Longhorns are out of SEC Championship Game contention following their loss to the Georgia Bulldogs in Week 12. They're no longer mathematically capable of reaching the SEC Championship Game. That's one route to the playoffs eliminated ahead of Week 13.

Pro Football Network now gives the Longhorns a 0.2% chance of competing in the playoffs as an “At-large” bid. That could be the end of Steve Sarkisian's side's impressive streak of playoff appearances dating back to the pre-12-team playoffs expansion.

It's hard to imagine a three-loss team making the playoffs in 2025, so the Longhorns might be on the outside looking in. Their SEC opponents, Georgia, Alabama, and Oklahoma, are well-positioned to represent the conference in the postseason.
