Milwaukee Bucks fans probably aren’t happy waking up to the latest news about two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
ESPN insider Shams Charania reported that Antetokounmpo is now open to searching for new NBA homes.
“The two-time NBA MVP has not made any firm decisions on his Bucks future after the franchise's third consecutive postseason exit in the first round, but for the first time in his career, Antetokounmpo is open-minded about exploring whether his best long-term fit is remaining in Milwaukee or playing elsewhere,” Charania wrote Monday morning.
Antetokounmpo constantly expressed his commitment to the Bucks over the course of his career. However, after several playoff failures, his time in Milwaukee is likely waning if he wants another championship.
Outside of the Bucks’ championship four years ago, Milwaukee has won just four playoff series in the Antetokounmpo era. Years of injuries to star players and underperformances from core players has held them back from contending. The fact is, they’re a Kevin Durant toe away from being colossal underperformers with the future Hall of Famer.
He boasts a decorated career with two MVP awards, nine All-Star appearances, a Defensive Player of the Year nod, and a 2021 Finals MVP. As one of the league’s best players, he’ll likely draw attention from all other 29 front offices. Among the early frontrunners to acquire Antetokounmpo are teams like the Miami Heat and Houston Rockets, whose first-round exits signal the need for more star help.
