Mike Evans' free agency price is horror scenario for Buccaneers

1 hour ago 3

The closer we get to NFL free agency, the more likely it feels that Mike Evans won't be with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2026.

Granted, there is still a possibility that he comes back, but with many suitors out there chasing Evans, the receiver could have his pick of where he wants to land.

And of course, money factors into it, and it is here, along with Evans' reported "checklist" he has for his next team, that spells doom for the Buccaneers.

CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones, after speaking to sources, thinks that Evans' market value on his next contract could be north of $20 million APY.

And that might be too rich for Tampa Bay.

“If Evans does not return to Tampa Bay, keep an eye on the Bills, Chargers, 49ers, Commanders and Giants,” Jones wrote. “His price is going to be difficult to gauge, though. He will be 33 this season coming off an injured year, and there aren't many comparisons to him out there.

"Evans may aim for something close to $25 million per year in what would amount to a two-year deal, but sources believe he will get something closer to $20 million per year.”

Should Buccaneers bend over backwards to retain Evans?

I haven't seen much of it anywhere from anyone, but the Buccaneers are actually in a good place with their receiver room if Evans does move on.

Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, Emeka Egbuka, and Tez Johnson as Baker Mayfield's four weapons.

That isn't a bad quartet. Yes, having Evans would be far better, but if he were to leave, the cupboard is hardly bare.

The most likely scenario is the Buccaneers have an offer on the table for Evans, and one that still fits into their budget, and if he takes it, great. If not, Tampa appears to be well-equipped to deal with his loss.
