WWE veteran commentator recently namedropped one of his former co-workers on live television. He is currently a part of AEW and has been a cornerstone for the Stamford-based promotion for years.

The aforementioned legend in question is Jim Ross. He is regarded as one of the greatest commentators and a creative individual in professional wrestling. He had a lengthy tenure with WWE and was immortalized for his contributions with an induction into the Hall of Fame in 2007.

In 2019, he debuted in AEW and became a part of their commentary desk and backstage regime. Currently, Ross only makes special appearances and has faced numerous health issues in the last year. On the November 21 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, his former colleague, Michael Cole, mentioned him during the broadcast of the show.

As the match between Carmelo Hayes and Bronson Reed in 'The Last Time is Now' tournament was about to begin, Cole mentioned the famous words of legendary announcer Bob Caudle, who passed away earlier this week. He also added that Caudle called the action of the 1989 WarGames match with Jim Ross.

"He called the 1989 WarGames with the legendary Jim Ross."

Ross gave his take on former WWE champion's new role in AEW

While Jim Ross stepped away from the role of a full-time commentator in AEW long ago, he gave his take on former WWE superstar Bryan Danielson joining the commentary desk. The legendary veteran voiced full confidence in Danielson's ability to excel in his new role.

“I’m looking forward to it. He’s a studious student of the game. Has a lot of knowledge. He’s more than happy to share, which I think is great. So I like the addition of him. It gets the knowledge out of a talent that has been kind of sequestered (…) Bryan’s a really smart guy, and I heard some of his work. I think he does a good job (…) I have utmost confidence in Bryan Danielson that he’s going to do a tremendous job. He’s smart, he’s studious," JR said. [H/T: WrestlingNews.co]

At the same time, Ross also said he was planning to return to AEW around the time of their Full Gear 2025 event. So it remains to be seen whether he will return to call the action for the pay-per-view.
