No. 13 Miami rolled past Virginia Tech 34-17 on Saturday to keep its ACC title hopes alive.
Carson Beck completed his first 11 passes and finished 27-of-32 for 320 yards and four touchdowns. He guided the Hurricanes (9-2, 5-2 ACC) to scores on all four first-half possessions for a 20-3 lead.
Freshman Malachi Toney had a breakout performance with 12 receptions for 146 yards and a touchdown, his third 100-yard game of the season.
“We had control of the game from the beginning all the way till the end,” Miami coach Mario Cristobal said.
After the Hokies (3-8, 2-5) opened the second half with a 38-yard touchdown run from Jeffrey Overton, Miami answered with Beck’s 16-yard strike to Girard Pringle Jr. Beck later found Toney again on fourth-and-2 with 26 seconds left, sealing the win.
Cristobal defended the late score, saying, “We’re going to stay aggressive.”
Virginia Tech rushed for 194 yards but dropped its third straight.
