Mets' Pete Alonso passes David Wright for franchise history in record books

Pete Alonso and David Wright were tied for a few innings.

The New York Mets current star launched his 242nd home run of the season on Sunday to tie the former captain for second on the franchise's all-time home run list.

But later in the game, Polar Bear Pete crushed another homer, his 243rd of his career. That pushed Alonso solely into second place and knocked Wright down to third.

"It’s really cool," Alonso told SNY. "For me, I just want to help the team win every single chance I get... Right now, I’m just focused on winning, so I don’t think it’s truly gonna settle in until later on."

There's only one player for Alonso left to catch, and it could happen this season.

Alonso is now chasing Darryl Strawberry, who had 252 homers.

Ten more baseballs launched beyond the fence means the tip-top of that record would belong to Alonso and no longer Strawberry.

It kind of stinks to knock the legendary Wright out of the way, but it's a reminder that Alonso himself is pretty special too.
