Brad Marchand has emerged as one of the biggest stories in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Even the Florida Panthers couldn't have expected how productive their trade deadline acquisition from the Boston Bruins has been this postseason.
Not only has Marchand piled up 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 19 games, but he's come through in the clutch with two overtime winners, including Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
While Brad Marchand continues his pursuit of a second career Stanley Cup, other teams around the league are waiting for the opportunity to sign him as a free agent. The star winger has been linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs, among others, but he's yet to rule out a return to Florida.
ESPN hockey insider Greg Wyshynski shared an article in which he asked the veteran about his free agency plans. He posted the link to the piece on X (formerly Twitter).
"Yeah, I've thought about it. But we'll deal with that in the future... There are teams where that absolutely matters. It doesn't matter for every player, but when you're dealing with guys that have a choice between multiple teams, it absolutely plays a part. If you have two teams that are offering the same contract, you're going to pick the team with less tax," Marchand said.Marchand is a pending UFA in the final season of the eight-year, $49,000,000 contract extension he signed with the Bruins in 2016.
Brad Marchand's overtime winner in Game 2 put him back atop an NHL record
Brad Marchand entered Friday night's game in a tie for the most Stanley Cup Final goals among active players.
He was knotted up with Corey Perry, Ondrej Palat, and Evgeni Malkin at eight total goals. After both Marchand and Perry scored in regulation, the 37-year-old took sole possession of first place with his double-overtime game-winning tally.
NHL Network shared a graphic of the updated leaderboard on X.
That's a pretty impressive list to be a part of, and he can add to his lead with a few more goals in this series.
Marchand and the Panthers will look to take their first lead of these Stanley Cup Finals in Game 3 against the Oilers on Monday night in Florida. The puck drops at 8 p.m. EST at Amerant Bank Arena.
